Brand

Fluo

A weird little axolotl who lives inside the product. He floats around, makes bubbles, and gets curious about whatever is happening.

Not a logo mascot

Fluo is not the F logo with a face. He is a creature who happens to live in the same water. The F identifies the brand; Fluo gives it a personality. Keep them apart, and the connection stays where it belongs: in the flow, the water and the bubbles.

Who he is

Fluo does not explain the brand and he does not have a backstory. His personality comes through what he does.

  • He is weird.
  • He likes to float around.
  • He likes water.
  • He makes bubbles.
  • He is curious about things.
  • He is relaxed and playful rather than hyperactive.
  • He sometimes helps, sometimes reacts, and sometimes is simply chilling.

How he behaves

Inside the FluoTest dashboard, Fluo lives behind the cards. He is decoration that has a life of its own, and he never gets in the way.

  • He floats and drifts, slowly, like something in water.
  • He explores, hides behind a card, and peeks out again.
  • He gets tired, rests, and sometimes dozes off. Some days he is peppy, some days sluggish.
  • He notices a milestone and celebrates briefly, then drifts off.
  • He never covers anything you are working on and cannot be clicked.
  • If your system prefers reduced motion, he holds still.

His environment

Fluo lives behind the interface. Cards hide him, gaps reveal him, and often a few bubbles rising from behind a card are the only sign he is there.

Bubbles

Bubbles are Fluo's own signature and work without him. A few bubbles mean he is nearby. A trail shows where he went. More bubbles mean he is excited. A slow stream means he is asleep. A few is always enough.

Poses and props

One character rig, many states. Props are contextual and temporary: a magnifying glass for looking into things, a crown for a milestone, nothing at all when he is off duty. His shape never changes.

Examples

The same restraint applies everywhere he appears.

A milestone

A short celebration with a crown and a checkmark, then he drifts away. No confetti, no modal.

A low number

A curious head-tilt near the card, once. Never a sad face next to your data.

An empty list

A small Fluo near the text, or just a few bubbles. Not a giant character with a speech bubble.

A changelog entry

He hides behind a card because he thinks it is a rock. That is the tone.

Correct and incorrect usage

Do

  • Use the official files or the in-product rig. Purple inside FluoTest.
  • Keep him small and off to the side, doing something.
  • One Fluo per surface at most. Often none.
  • Let a few bubbles stand in for him.
  • Keep his shape: round body, fin gills, belly wave, closed eyes, big tail fin, no outline.
  • Outside the product he appears only on the brand pages, in the changelog and in launch posts.

Don't

  • Do not turn him into the F logo, or the F into him.
  • Do not make him talk, sell, or explain features.
  • Do not make him hyperactive or bouncy.
  • Do not redraw him as a realistic axolotl or add pupils, teeth or an outline.
  • Do not put him in a customer's quiz, in error messages or in billing and legal pages.
  • Do not recolor him outside the product palette. The magnifying glass stays yellow.
